The Canadian contemporary dance-theatre company Kidd Pivot presents its new work, Assembly Hall, created by choreographer Crystal Pite and actor Jonathon Young. Eight performers explore the human need for community and belonging, through movement and language, humour and creativity.
The annual assembly of a medieval association gathers in the community hall. It is up to the governing body to save the so-called “Quest Fest”, as membership numbers are dwindling, debts are rising, and the community hall is falling into disrepair. If action isn't taken soon, the association risks closure. As the assembly proceeds, the line between reality and re-enactment blurs, ancestral forces awaken, and it soon becomes clear that much more than a medieval tournament re-enactment is at stake.
The Kidd Pivot company is known for its hybrid approach, where dance meets theatre and movement meets language, creating an unmistakable style that thrills audiences worldwide. It is also renowned for the themes it addresses in its works, which are always current and highly relevant to society.
