The historical buildings in the wine village of Caldaro have many stories to tell: The Buol Residence in Caldaro village (Kaltern Dorf), for instance, was once the residence of the Tyrolean novelist Maria von Buol, the last descendant of the Lords of Buol from Caldaro. Such as the manor houses in the other villages on the Wine Road, also the ones of Caldaro are characterised by inner courtyards, turrets and oriels, typical elements of the Oltradige construction style.
In Pozzo (Pfuss) there is the Giovanelli Castle which replaces a former medieval tower-house. Nearby there's another venerable building, called Castel Mühlburg or "Pfusser Gschlössl", one of the 119 listed buildings of Caldaro. In Caldaro village, however, the Tonvin Residence (in the picture), a beautiful building in Baroque palazzo style, gives its name to the adjacent square. Furthermore, this locality features the 400-year-old Von Pach Residence with its beautiful façade and the Windegg Residence, a well-known event location for weddings and parties today.
Further residences can be found in the surroundings of Lake Caldaro, such as the Manincor Residence with its wine-growing estate, as well as the Greifenburg Manor, a rectangular building in Renaissance style, and the Kaltenburg Residence. In Pianizza di Sopra (Oberplanitzing) you can find the Andergassen and Strengherrnhof manors.
