Accompanied by a small Christmas market, the “Living Crib” in Egna is a quiet and contemplative attraction

At Christmas time, the medieval arcades of Egna with their beautiful Venetian-style houses are transformed into a Christmas village. It is the time of the "Arcades Christmas", when horse-drawn carriage rides and workshops for adults and children are offered at two Advent weekends in December. An inseparable part of this is the "Living Crib".
Under the historic arbours, more precisely in the Meister Konrad passageway, Mary sits with her child. Joseph watches over them. Ox and donkey are also present, and craftsmen give variety to the scene. The blacksmith's fire warms a bit, the sheep also give off some body warmth - and of course delight the little visitors. This is how the much-loved "Egna Living Crib" becomes a true play: On five afternoons in December, the drama group "Heimatbühne Neumarkt" performs.
In addition, great importance is attached to a children's Advent, to special South Tyrolean quality products - Egna has already been called the "Village of Biscuits" - and to a relaxed atmosphere under the arcades of Egna with its beautiful houses in Venetian architectural style. By the way: "Living Cribs" are also shown in the surrounding villages in the Oltradige, along the South Tyrolean Wine Road and in the south of South Tyrol, for example at the "KrippenWeihnacht" in the alleys of San Paolo and at the traditional "Advent in the Courtyard" in Termeno.
