The Museion - Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Bolzano (Bozen) - is a design that sets new accents: The 54 m long and 25 m high futuristic building with glass front, located at the Piazza Piero Siena square at the entrance to the town centre, was planned by KSV, an architectural office from Berlin. Together with the curved pedestrian and cyclist bridge over the Talvera river, it was completed in 2008. A studio in close vicinity is offered to artists during their stay, which gives birth to the Museion as art studio.
A Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art has existed already since 1985, founded by a private association with the assistance of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano. It was to promote art between Ala and Kufstein, i.e. the historic Tyrol, from 1900 onwards. The name "Museion" dates back to 1991. The present large light-flooded Kunsthalle features changing exhibitions and 4,500 works by international and regional artists. A focal point of the collection is, among others, the form language of sculptures. A specialised library, the cafe and a museum shop as well as projections on the building's facade in summer complete the offer.

The Museion stays open all year round, Monday rest day. The Museion shop is accessible from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 5.30 pm and on Thursdays until 9.30 pm. The coffee bar stays open from Monday to Friday from 8 am to 6 pm, on Thursdays till 10 pm, and at the weekends from 10 am to 6 pm. Hot meals are served from Monday to Friday from noon time to 2.30 pm.
