Werner Morandell, a winegrower and author from Caldaro (Kaltern), has fulfilled his dream and opened a private open-air museum on the 3 hectares of the Lieselehof Winery. It is dedicated to a special topic: the grapes and the wine. The biological winery presents today 350 different grape varieties from countries such as Italy, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Greece, USA, Russia, South Africa and Japan.
The Vine Museum offers two interesting aspects: the wide variety of vines that exist in the world and the organic-ecological winegrowing that has been practised here since 1993, which affords a new perspective of how to treat nature and the environment. Information panels tell about the vine itself, its country of origin and possible crossing partners. By the way: After a guided visit you can taste the great award-winning Lieselehof wines - 20,000 bottles are produced every year.
