In Favogna di Sotto (Unterfennberg), a rather remote and idyllic hamlet with a tavern in the middle of a 10 ha large area of meadows and fields, protected since 1977, there’s Lake Favogna (Fennberger See, in German - Lago di Favogna, in Italian). Favogna di Sotto, a component locality of Magrè on the Wine Road, is accessible via a winding mountain road in a short time.
The lake at 1,034 m a.s.l. features a max. depth of 4 m and covers a surface of 1.3 ha. It was placed under protection: Its reed belt is a habitat and breeding ground for a series of animal and plant species, including the freshwater crayfish and the common cottongrass. About 35 different orchids flourish in this area. Due to the warm air current from the south and the sheltered position in a basin, the area hosts a flora and fauna that can also be found at Lake Garda.
Lake Favogna with its nearby St. Leonard Church is also a popular hiking destination, which offers a fantastic panoramic view and a beautiful landscape. A hike leads in 2.5 hours from Magrè across the wooded slopes to the high plateau and its lake. If you would like to take a bath, you are welcome, dogs, however, are not allowed in the waters of the biotope.
