Mt. Bergner Kreuz is one of the viewpoints of the Mendola Ridge, a peak between Mt. Penegal and Mt. Macaion in the Oltradige area, which is also known as the local mountain of Appiano. Beneath the 1,779 m high summit there's a new wooden bench with a breathtaking view including the valley basin of Bolzano and the Dolomites. In summer months, the alpine gentian blooms here.
The 4.5 hour long round tour to Mt. Bergner Kreuz leads experienced hikers from Appiano Monte through the Piccola Forcella wind gap (Kematscharte, in German), a narrow channel with a new 10 m long stairway. The wind gaps between the vertically sloping rock faces are impressive. By the way: A tour to Mt. Bergner Kreuz for watching the sunrise is a great summer experience!
