South of the Rif. Oltradige al Roen mountain hut, there is another viewpoint in the Mendola Ridge, called Mt. Testa Nera

Above Termeno on the Wine Road, another popular destination with a special name is enthroned in the Mendola Ridge: the 2,030 m high Mt. Testa Nera (Schwarzer Kopf, in German - literally: Black Head). Only few peaks of the mountain ridge reach the 2,000 m mark here - this panoramic mountain is one of them, besides Mt. Roen (2,116 m a.s.l.). The view from up there on the Bassa Atesina area and the surrounding mountain world is accordingly beautiful.
Its summit cross is located 50 m beneath the highest point: So you can see it also from the valley. The demanding 7-hour Roen Tour leads from Termeno, more precisely from the Gummererhof tavern at 750 m a.s.l., towards Mt. Col di Sotto and beneath Mt. La Cerva to the Rif. Oltradige al Roen mountain hut (1,775 m a.s.l.). From there you can reach Mt. Roen and Mt. Testa Nera, before the descent to Termeno starts. Alternatively, the challenging Sentiero dei Camosci (Chamois’ Trail) takes you from the Mendola Pass to the mountain hut and further on to Mt. Roen.
