Since the Middle Ages, Bolzano has been a fair town of international importance. Here traders, businessmen and ornamental blacksmiths from northern Italy, Germany, Austria and eastern Switzerland came together, here the techniques of trade and payment transactions changed. This tradition has been maintained until today and continued at the Bolzano Fair. Since 1998, the new exhibition grounds have been located in the southern trade area of Bolzano, along the Bolzano-Merano railway line. They offer a surface of 45,000 m²: Two thirds of them are roofed.
The five ha large site of the Bolzano Fair is the ideal location for trade fairs, congresses and leisure activities - an alpine contact exchange between companies from Italy and German-speaking areas. Furthermore, the Bolzano Fair gets active in sustainability, e.g. by the installation of photovoltaic systems, and promotes the offer "Free public transport with FieraMesse". The conference rooms of the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel can be reached directly from the exhibition centre.
More than 230,000 visitors fill the Bolzano Fair every year, which appreciate the wide range of trade shows and exhibitions it has to offer. The best-known are the Leisure Fair in April/May and the International Autumn Fair in November. Other trade fairs are dedicated to special topics, such as the Prowinter (winter sports), Agrialp (agriculture), Kreativ, Hotel, Biolife, Interpoma (apple cultivation) and KlimaHouse. With the Alpitech China, the Bolzano Fair offers also an International Trade Show for Mountain and Winter Technologies in the Asia-Pacific region.
