The Via della Mostra, the richest alley of the town, is lined by pompous palaces, which were built in the Renaissance period

The Via della Mostra, once the most elegant street in Bolzano, is located between the Piazza Walther square and the Sernesi Arcade: The Bolzano Christmas Market also extends up to here.
In the Middle Ages, the wealthy representatives of the urban bourgeoisie began to settle in the Via della Mostra. Magnificent palaces in the style of the Renaissance and Classicism, built in the 17th and 18th centuries, still tell of the former wealth. Over the centuries, the alley was also renamed several times: from Mustergasse, the German name of the Via della Mostra, to Herrengasse, then to Erzherzog Rainer Strasse. Finally it got its historical name back.
Worth seeing are the majestic residences and mansions flanking the Via della Mostra alley: Palais Campofranco at the southern corner to the Piazza Walther square, once the residence of Archduke Rainer of Austria, who is buried in the Cathedral; Palais Menz, which today houses a branch of Banca Intesa BCI bank, and Palais Pock, today the seat of the restaurant “Zur Kaiserkron”. The place where the Fink restaurant is located today, once the prison of Bolzano stood, equipped with a torture chamber and an apartment for the guard.
