The legend says, that there, where Lake Caldaro can be found today, once a beautiful town was located
There’s also a legend which explains how the warmest bathing lake of the Alps came into being. Slightly away from the above mentioned town, a single house was located. The inhabitants of the town were rich and arrogant, but in the house an extremely poor family was living. It came to pass that Jesus and his disciples stopped by. Jesus asked for food and water, but the poor housefather had nothing to offer, only a jug with fresh water to satisfy at least the guests’ thirst.
Saint Peter, who asked for food and water in the town, came back empty-handed. Jesus was furious about the avarice of the townspeople and poured the jug of water out of the window towards the town. All at once everywhere water spurted out from the ground and covered the town within a short time. But the single house and the pious family were spared and the housefather now was able to fish in the lake. Still today, the house is located in the same place, its name is “Campi al Lago” (today a component locality of Vadena, located on the eastern shore of Lake Caldaro).
