The “Egna Arcade Festival” called “Laubenfest Neumarkt” enchants for three days the village with its medieval arcades
Live music, entertainment, food and drink characterise the village centre of Egna on the first weekend in August. In those days, the popular “Arcade Festival”, a festival for all generations and at the same time the oldest village fair of South Tyrol, takes place. The music band plays, the traditional “Schuhplattler” show their skills and the aroma of roasted meat and sweet treats fills the air. The booths and visitors, however, populate not only the arcades, but also the historical courtyards and old cellars. In the evenings, there’s live music on three stages in the village centre.
The “Egna Arcade Festival”, organised by local associations and clubs, offers entertainment for kids on Saturday and Sunday as well as a big party for young people and adults along the central Via Andreas Hofer road on Friday and Saturday. In the past, there was a very special custom on Friday morning: The organising committee took a batch of eggs to the “Griesfeld” retirement home, where they prayed for a successful festival and good weather. On the way there, some eggs had to be given as a present to young women. And afterwards there was a toast to the upcoming festival!
