This tour rewards with a refreshing swim in the beautiful Big Lake Monticolo
Image gallery: Hike from Vadena to Lake Monticolo
The trail to the other side of the hill starts right at the townhall of Vadena (Pfatten). Our baby (1 year) is carried in the carry-rucksack, in the other backpack we have everything for a picnic and our swimsuits. Already the first section is steep and stony. The red-white marker leads us through the underbrush at the slope and over some fallen tree trunks. Half-way proceeds like this through the deciduous forest uphill to the hilltop. Sometimes a small piece of art, a painted stone or a prayer flag line the path. Between the trees we see the Wine Route at our feet and the villages of Laives and Bronzolo on the other side of the valley.
The advantage of this steep ascent: the trail is not crowded and after a short time we have overcome most of the altitude difference. After half way we reach the flatter section which leads us to the asphalt road towards the Big Monticolo Lake, even a deer comes into sight. After a refreshing bath in the lake we turn back along the same trail and reach the Vadena town hall after an hour walk. Parking possibility at the weekends along the road leading to the town hall (during the week only 1 hour of parking is allowed). If you want to extend the hike you can circle the two lakes. And as mentioned: don't forget your swimsuit!
Suitable for families? Toddlers only in the carry-rucksack - the trail is steep, stony, partly slippery and thus not suitable for kids and old people.
