Gaido is the highest located village of Appiano and belongs to the parish of Predonico. This little village boasts a pilgrimage church dedicated to the Fourteen Auxiliary Saints. These patron saints were 14 selected Christians of the period between the 2nd and the 4th century. In 1638, the church was constructed by Eustach Franzin von Zinnenberg from Appiano. The area in front of the church and the nearby Moarhof farm are by the way a protected ensemble.
Castel Festenstein is situated in the hinterland of Gaido and is located slightly below the village in the forest. Only the donjon is left, which is accessible via several walking trails. The road terminates in Gaido. From here, hiking trails and cycle tracks lead to all directions. In other words, Gaido stands for a paradise for those who love to spend leisure under the open sky.
