In a slightly remote position, the village of Monticolo is located in the heart of the forest, at two beautifully situated lakes. The Big and Small Monticolo Lakes are popular destinations for inhabitants and travellers both in summer and winter.
The church in the little village centre is dedicated to the Three Kings. It dates back to the late Gothic period around 1470 and is decorated by a ribbed vault, a pyramid roof was added to the steeple in 1518. The only bell in the tower was cast in 1505 and transported to Monticolo. The altar of the church dates back to the Baroque period, elements of the Renaissance period are also recognisable.
Monticolo is the centre of a very popular and famous hiking and relaxation area. This is also where the Valle della Primavera (Spring valley) starts resp. ends. In this valley, spring starts much earlier than in other parts of this area. Moreover Monticolo is venue for a series of events such as the so-called "Montiggler Wei(s)se": white wine, cuisine offering local delicacies and music entertain both inhabitants and guests in August.
